FAQs

Q: What wax does Mi-Candle use?

A: Mi-Candle uses the finest eco-friendly Soy wax. With soy wax you achieve a significantly cleaner burn than with traditional waxes, meaning that the candle burns slower and can last up to 50% longer.

Q: Why do candle wicks sometimes become mushroom shaped?

A: This can happen when the candle is consuming wax more quickly than the flame can burn completely, carbon deposits may develop. This could happen when the wick needs to be trimmed. Blow out the flame, trim off the wick and carbon deposit and relight. Do not allow the wick trimmings or other materials to fall into the wax pool.

Q: Do your candles produce black soot?

A: Our candles are virtually soot-free as long as they are burned properly according to the instructions found on the bottom of the tin. Our soy wax candles are a clean burning alternative to other types of candles.

To ensure your candle remains soot free:

  • Always burn your candle on a flat surface (ideally on the lid of the candle tin)

  • Try not to leave your candle in a drafty area that will make the flame flicker as this can cause the candle to smoke.

Q: What type of wicks do you use?

A: We always use lead free wicks, which are eco-friendly.

Q: Should I trim the wick?

A: Yes you must trim the wick before lighting the candle. Then trim mushrooms that develop, but keep wick(s) 1/2" long so candle burns properly. Soy wax does require a much longer wick than other waxes so if it's trimmed too short the wick could drown out. Please follow the instructions found on the bottom of Mi-Candle’s tin.

Q: Do your candles have a strong scent throw?

A: Yes Mi-Candle’s are scented with the maximum amount of high quality fragrance oils that our wax will allow. Some scents are lighter than others, but that is due to the nature of the scent rather than the strength of our fragrance oils. Mi-Candle uses fragrances which give an amazing fresh fragrance to all our candles and an incredible scent throw as well as a great pot pourri fragrance when the candle is not lit.

Q: How do you make your candles?

A: Our candles are made at home by myself and individually hand-poured and decorated. This allows for each candle to have it's own unique characteristics.

Q: What causes bumps, dents, or white marks in the wax after extinguishing the candle?

A: Occasionally this may happen due to the nature of soy wax. The benefits of soy wax far outweigh any appearance flaws.

Q: The last time I burned my candle and blew it out, the wick disappeared down into the wax that was melted, what should I do?

A: This does not normally happen on candles that have been properly extinguished. To get your wick back, take a long grill lighter and melt the wax on the top layer until you can see the wick. Once you can see the wick, dump out the wax that you have melted with the lighter into another wax safe container, NOT into the bin as the wax will melt the plastic. You can then relight your candle and continue to enjoy it.

Q: How long should I burn my candle?

A: You should always burn your candle for a minimum of 3 hours at a time. Never burn your candle for more than 4 hours as this can affect the long lasting life of your candle. In any case always extinguish the candle, trim the wick and re lit the candle after 4 hours.

Always ensure the top layer of your candle has melted into a pool of liquid wax , this avoids tunneling.

Q: What is the burn time?

A: our candles last 25-35 hours.
